An investigators best friend! Sometimes even all the gadgets and tools in the world can't replace the simplicity of writing down your notes and joting diagrams of what you need to explain.
Always have these to hand when you investigate.

Digital Camera

The digital camera is particularly useful, even more so these days. It's practically standard for a digital camera to be able to snap photo's in various modes adapting to the surrounding light. As an added bonus most can even record short amounts of video. Also they are now small enough to fit straight into your pocket.
Its a good idea to have one of these at hand when entering an investigation.

Camcorder

Not unlike digital camera's camcorders have also advanced a bit. They are now more affordable, smaller and also have ready fitted many elements of what an investigator may require to capture an anomalie. Most can now be operated in low light easily.
A camcorder is becoming more an more essential these days, as a photo or audio recording just isn't enough to convince people. Video footage is a good way to back up other evidence.

Dictaphone

These little devices are excellent for use in a paranormal investigation. They also have multiple uses too. They can be used to record interviews, for making quick verbal notes, capturing Electronic Voice Phenomena (EVP), Instrumental TransCommunication (ITC) or voices.

EMF Meter

These are used to detect Electro Magnetic Fields. There are theories that 'spirits' can manipulate EMF, and a large variant in the local field could be a spirit attempting to manifest or just pass by the device. There also additional theories that high EMF can be created by man made devices, clustered together. It's believed these area suffering from constant high EMF can have an effect on us, causing headaches, dizzyness, sickness and more. In some cases it may even be the cause of why you feel a certain way of believe you have seen something.
Detecting an EMF field, paranormal or man made is essential to understanding some elements of an investigation.

IR Non-Contact Thermometer

These are used for taking a surface tempature quickly and from a distance.
The IR Thermometer allows us to take a surface reading without having to be exactly at the location, which can be extremely helpful. However, to obtain an air temperature you would require a probe.

Motion Sensor

These are ideal to cover a part of the location you can't constantly monitor. That way you can seal off a room, so that if there is any movement in there the alarm will sound.
Although they don't record any evidence thay draw an investigators attention to a particular area if movement is detected.

CCTV System

This is an extremely useful piece of kit, allowing investigators to close off areas of the site and monitor them with motion enabled cameras or even to place them in known 'Hot Spots' to either constantly record or record on movement.
They allow us to cover so much more and gather so much more material for analysis.
